St. Patrick’s NS are currently working towards our first Active flag. We are dedicated to promoting physical education and activity within our school community. Our Active School Flag (ASF) programme encourages students to engage in a variety of fun and inclusive physical activities. Through initiatives like Active Schools Week and our comprehensive PE curriculum, we strive to foster a lifelong love of fitness and well-being.
We Are An Active School
An Active School strives to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community. Here is what it looks like in St. Patrick’s NS:
Physical Education – PE timetables are in compliance with DES recommendations. We deliver a broad and balanced PE curriculum for all students, taught by our classroom teachers and other qualified external trainers. As a school we focus on shared strands simultaneously across the year.
Physical Activity – We provide a broad range of physical activity opportunities for students of all interests and abilities. The active indicator is part of our Wellbeing plan for all students in all classes. Our students have the opportunity to engage in many active pursuits including GAA, soccer, tag rugby, tennis, swimming to name a few,
Partnerships – Ballyfarnon is steeped in sporting tradition and community spirit and we have been able to utilise the skills of many parents and local people to help us with physical activity. We are lucky to have such a supportive parent body who are always prepared to incorporate the HOME element of our physical activity endeavors.
Active Schools Week – as a school we have always participated in Active Schools week prior to working towards our first flag. This year we will continue to do so, with an even greater collaborative approach across the school. Active Schools week will take place in June and coincides with our Active Homework for June.

We are currently working towards our school’s first Active flag. Our aim is that all children are encouraged to stay active throughout the day and to ultimately embrace activity and exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle.
