Our Fruit & Vegetables theme 😁

Recently we had our Food Dudes week in school; fruit and vegetables was also our theme for the fortnight. We got to taste and name lots of tasty fruit and vegetables. We had a fruit & vegetables shop: 1st and 2nd class practised making amounts of money within 50c and giving change within 20c (1st class) and 50c (2nd class).

We also enjoyed listening & responding to the lovely Kenyan story, ‘Handa’s Surprise’ which features more unusual fruits like guavas, avocados, and passion fruits. We played bingo with words from the story and used stick puppets to retell the story. We also created a story map by drawing or cutting and pasting pictures and words from the story.

As part of SPHE, we’ve also been exploring healthy eating. We sorted a selection of healthy foods into proteins, carbohydrates, foods containing calcium, and foods containing vitamins and minerals. We learned that fruit & vegetables contains lots of important vitamins & minerals 😊
